Criteria:
This award is designed to recognize outstanding youth in our community! How do we thank thee? Let us count the ways! Optimist Clubs recognize local youth for their efforts in the arts, athletics, academics and community service work. Youth Appreciation is the perfect opportunity for Optimists to make a difference in their community and demonstrate the Optimists’ commitment to young people.
Junior Optimists are a group of young people who are community volunteers – volunteers who help to improve the quality of life for the residents of Brockton. The purpose of this award is to provide recognition for the outstanding Community Service that our youth do. Recognition will be considered for those youth that are striving to make our community a better place to live and learn. The award will be geared towards those that fulfill the criteria outside of regular school, organized art or sport team requirements.
The award will be reviewed as per the below guidelines:
This year's award aligns with The Optimist Creed.
The Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
Please review the above creed when writing your nomination for a Walkerton and District Optimist Club Youth Award for 2025.
While the Walkerton and District Optimist Club will be happy to provide all nominees with an honourable mention, there will be a select few individuals recognized who work towards our shared goal of providing hope and a positive vision for the future.
Optimist Clubs recognize local youth for their efforts in the arts, athletics, academics and community service work. What has the youth nominee done to bring out the best not only in themselves, in the community and peers as well. How has the youth enhanced another person’s wellbeing through their thoughts and actions? Optimist Club’s have the belief that we are giving of oneself in service to others through an effort to advance the well-being of humankind and community life. How has the individual given of themselves to pay it forward? How have they worked towards making a difference in our community?
